A Fishing Lodge to Call Your Own

Since 2019, The Ridge has been Alaska’s best-kept secret — a place where lifelong memories are made, both on and off the water. We’d be honored to help you experience in a week what most fishermen only dream of.

Enjoy the view

Each day’s adventure ends at our cozy lodge, perched 250+ feet above the Copper River Valley, where you’ll enjoy a 5-star meal, unwind in the hot tub, and relax with your favorite people. With exclusive accommodations for 4 to 6 fishermen, you’re sure to be delighted by the beauty and uniqueness of your surroundings.

& make yourself at home.

At The Ridge, you’re not just a guest—you’re part of a story that began long before the doors were opened to the public. The original owners, from Indiana, built the lodge as a summer retreat for their family, designing it with comfort and relaxation in mind—far from a typical guest lodge. The warmth and tranquility that made it a family sanctuary naturally became the foundation of the guest experience we offer today.

Though we are remote, many of our guests walk out their front door in the morning and arrive to the lodge in time for dinner that evening. The first stop is Anchorage, followed by a short flight to the bush village of Iliamna, where our floatplane awaits for the final transfer to the lodge.

Hosts that become like family

John and Macy would be honored to share their favorite place on the planet with you, and there is nothing that brings them more joy than seeing that their guests have an experience beyond all expectations.

John Coffman

John’s guide résumé reads like a fly fisherman’s bucket list. Over the past decade, he’s guided anglers across the globe, chasing a variety of species in both fresh and saltwater. Yet, after guiding and fishing in many premier locations, it’s in the heart of the Bristol Bay wilderness—at The Ridge—where John has put down roots, captivated by the area’s unmatched fishing that has far surpassed anywhere else he’s experienced.

He has led The Ridge’s renowned fishing program for the past three years, combining his deep knowledge of the waters with a patient, teaching-focused style and a constant curiosity to learn more. His favorite part of the job is sharing the experience with his wife, Macy. When not in Alaska, you can find John swinging flies for steelhead in the Pacific Northwest or poling his skiff through the shallow flats of South Texas.

Macy Coffman

Macy has been connected to the Bristol Bay region since the age of 4, when she began spending summers with her family at their fishing cabin in Iliamna. Originally from Bakersfield, CA, Macy grew up learning hospitality from her parents, who regularly hosted friends and family to fish the Newhalen River. Alongside her family, Macy developed a natural ability to care for their guests, creating memorable, down-to-earth experiences that have shaped the way she hosts today. Macy’s bright, welcoming spirit has made her a favorite among guests of The Ridge, who consistently appreciate her warm hospitality and genuine care.

As a fly fishing enthusiast herself, Macy is right at home running a wilderness fishing lodge on the banks of a world-class trout stream. During the off-season, Macy and John hit the road in their camper van, enjoying quality fishing time. Along the way, she often manages to out-fish him, but he’s getting used to it.
